OpenAI Goes to Hollywood

OpenAI is bringing Sora to Hollywood

An image created by Sora

When Sora was announced about a month ago, it shook the world to the core.

As a matter of fact, Tyler Perry was so impressed by the AI model, that he paused his $800 million studio expansion instantaneously.

While we’ve all been waiting for OpenAI to release the technology to the general public, it seems they have other plans in mind.

Bloomberg reports that OpenAI has opened discussions with the filmmakers, studios, and talent agencies of Hollywood to allow them to familiarize themselves with the text-to-video generator.

The discussions are set to happen next week.

Why this matters: OpenAI has probably analyzed the value of Sora and decided it would be smarter to offer it to a niche audience. They’ll possibly charge an absurd amount of money for it.

But hey, this is AI. A random start-up may drop their version of Sora tomorrow.

The Free AI Editor of Your Dreams

Lex Page in action

What’s happening here? As a writer, I understand the power of having someone look through my work. They offer a fresh perspective and point out anything I may have missed.

The thing is, I write a lot so it’s hard to find someone who can look through my work constantly.

Thankfully, I discovered Lex.page, and I’m pretty sure I would be lost without them. Lex is an AI-powered editor built into a word processor (like Google Docs).

Here’s how you can use Lex to improve your writing:

  1. Head on over to https://lex.page/~ and create your account.

  2. Paste your draft into a new document.

  3. Click the commands button on the top left of your screen.

  4. Click run AI checks and select the actions you want the AI to perform.

  5. Click “Run Checks” and the AI will highlight draft improvements.

Startup Politics

Stability AI CEO quits to focus on Decentralized AI

There’s a lot of drama going around the AI startup world right now. Stability AI seems to have hopped on this trend as they recently announced the departure of their CEO, Emad Mostaque.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • In the statement, Stability AI did not give a reason why Emad was stepping down.

  • They announced that the Board of Directors had appointed Shan Shan Wong, their Chief Operating Officer, and Christian Laforte, (their Chief Technology Officer) as interim Co-CEOs in the meantime.

  • According to Emad, he resigned from his position to “pursue decentralized AI.”

  • This follows Stability’s recent decision to focus on commercialized AI products and I believe this is the main reason Mostaque decided to leave the company.

Why does this matter: The idea of “decentralized AI” is extremely appealing, but difficult to actualize.

So far, only the tech giants (Google, OpenAI, and Meta) have the money and computing power to build AI models.

If people like Mostaque could distribute GPU power globally, it would have serious advantages and disadvantages.
